Music Education Opens Doors….

kids_musicMusic education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.

All children love music. I would like to suggest that if your child does not have music in their schools or the music class time is very limited, enhance their learning with private lessons. Now I know that today’s kids have very busy schedules, so if music lessons do not fit in their schedule, then please introduce them to different genres of music. This is so easy to do!

  • Play music while doing chores around the house.
  • Play music that goes along with a meal.
  • Find the soundtrack to the child’s favorite movie.

As a music teacher, I’m surprised at how few songs from the past my students don’t know. Music was a huge part of my family so we were always listening and singing around the house. Country music was popular in my house and there are really neat story songs that kids should be exposed to. Here are a few that were my favorites.

Della and the Dealer – Hoyt Axton

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald – Gordon Lightfoot

El Paso – Marty Robbins

Take Me Home Country Roads – John Denver
