Happy Tuesday Fast Trackers! I’m starting something new on my blog called “Try it Tuesdays”. Today I want to introduce to you this new piece the Katydid Waltz. This piece is about one hundred years old. Not only the paper, but the song itself is almost one hundred years old.

Now, back in the day when I was a kid and we would get a piece of music like this they came with short samples on the back. This was one of my most favorite things about getting new pieces of sheet music. I don’t think that music comes with the samples on the back anymore. If you have seen music with the samples, let me know. I haven’t seen it in years. The samples on the back of the music are more challenging then the piece of sheet music.

I think when I am done with this “Try it Tuesday” I’m going to preserve this piece of music, because it is so brittle, in a picture frame and hang it on the wall in my lesson room. I think this would be cool to have it hanging.

What I’m going to do today is I’m going to play it and then I’m going to give you a little bit of instruction on how to play the piece.

If you are a piano player and you don’t need the instructions then skip them and have fun with the piece. If you haven’t played the piano in a while and want to get back into it and need to brush up your skills, then watch the instruction video at the bottom of the page.

Let me know how you did. In fact if you can, make a video of you playing The Katydid Waltz and I’ll post it on my blog!

This is one of my favorite things about old sheet music. It has samples on the back!
